The Institute of Medical Science and Technology (IMSAT) is the first research institute in Iran, which was established by collaboration of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, and the Ministry of Science and Technology specifically to support interdisciplinary medical research.  The idea behind this institute was developed by prof. Reza Malekzadeh (Head of National Institute for Medical Research Development - NIMAD) and prof. Mohammad Farhadi (Minister of Science and Technology) on 17.12.2015. This Institute was officially approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology. At Shahid Beheshti University, prof. Mojtaba Zarei was charged with founding the Institute.
 

IMSAT consists of three main Departments:

  1. ​Department of Biomedical Engineering

  2. Department of Clinical Translation of Technology

  3. Department of Nuclear Technology in Medicine


Institute’s Strategies:

  • ​Creativity and innovation in biomedical engineering technologies (e.g. bioelectricity, biomagnetism and biophotonics) to improve medical services;

  • Creativity and innovation in nuclear technologies for medical purposes;

  • Translational researches for using technologies in clinical settings;

  • Clinical trials to review and assess medical technologies;

  • Employing mathematics, statistics and computer science in medical data analysis and modeling diseases;

  • Attracting well-trained and experienced Iranian elites, including physicians, engineers, and scientists to join the Institute.
