The second edition of the book Landscape Architecture: An Introduction to theory and Meanings, written by Dr. Seyed Hassan Taghvaei, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at Shahid Beheshti University, was published in 2024 by the university press. The book consists of 218 pages in a standard royal format and is available for purchase at 3,950,000 rials.
For years, landscape architecture activities have played a crucial role in improving the quality of the living environment, enhancing people's connection with nature, and shaping landscapes, particularly in the process of urban development in both developed and developing countries. Many prestigious academic institutions and professional organizations in these countries, which are actively engaged in various aspects of landscape and landscape architecture, have contributed to strengthening the theoretical and practical foundations necessary for landscape architecture projects. In this context, and despite Iran’s rich environmental knowledge and long history of garden design and landscaping, it is essential to reflect on the concept of landscape and establish specialized studies and localized principles for landscape architecture.
The book Landscape Architecture: An Introduction to theory and Meanings is based on the author’s academic and professional experiences and follows an eco-oriented design approach. It aims to explore the essence of landscape and examine the definitions and theoretical foundations of landscape architecture. The book presents a comprehensive and holistic set of definitions and proposes a model for landscape values. This book is the first Persian-language publication dedicated to defining and discussing the theoretical foundations of landscape architecture. The author has sought to clarify the essence of landscape architecture by presenting viewpoints and definitions from leading experts in the field, as well as from related disciplines such as ecology, architecture, urban planning, and urban design. The content has been developed through a review of specialized literature and a critical analysis of existing texts.
One of the book’s key features is its documentation of certain environmental values, its localization of landscape architecture studies, and its simultaneous comparison of existing perspectives in Iran and worldwide.
Divided into seven chapters, Landscape Architecture is primarily designed to meet the needs of landscape architecture students and to provide a foundation for further studies on environmental architecture and the design of open and green spaces.
