Farsi-Masal, authored by Dr. Mahin-Naz Mirdehghan Farashah, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Literature and Humanities, and Dr. Farnaz Fotouhi, a PhD graduate of Shahid Beheshti University, has been published.
According to the Public Relations Office of Shahid Beheshti University, this book was released for the first time in 1404 (Persian calendar) under the title Farsi-Masal: An Illustrated Dictionary of Persian Idioms and Proverbs for Learners of Persian. It is published in 136 pages and is available at the price of 7,500,000 rials by Shahid Beheshti University Press.
Farsi-Masal is an instructional, illustrated dictionary featuring 200 commonly used Persian idioms and proverbs. It has been developed to strengthen the communicative competence and intercultural understanding of non-native learners of Persian as well as beginner Persian speakers. The dictionary is designed based on second language teaching principles and within the framework of the comprehensive “Faraz Farsi” program. Its entries are organized around three main themes: “Food,” “Parts of the Body,” and “Animals.”
Each entry includes a simplified definition, an authentic dialogue, a poetic example, grammatical notes, an interactive “Create Your Own” exercise, an instructional illustration, and spoken–written equivalents. In addition, the 200 entries are categorized into 10 thematic groups to facilitate easier access and selection based on topic or instructional goals.
To support teaching and learning, a QR code is provided at the beginning of the book, enabling access to the online English equivalents on the “Faraz Farsi” website. Furthermore, the project’s YouTube channel at YouTube.com/@PersianPrimeArt offers short videos and time-lapse clips showcasing the illustration design process.
Farsi-Masal is a practical resource for classroom use and self-study, and is offered as part of Shahid Beheshti University’s Persian language program for non-Persian speakers.
