The international academic and research workshop “The Digital World, Artificial Intelligence, and Legal Considerations” was held online with the participation of faculty members from Shahid Beheshti University and Ufa University of Science and Technology, Russia, as part of the international conference “Emerging Trends in Science and Education in the CIS Countries.”
According to the Public Relations Office of Shahid Beheshti University, the academic and research workshop was held online on September 18, 2026, as part of the international conference “Emerging Trends in Science and Education in the CIS Countries,” which took place in Ufa, Russia, from September 16 to 18, 2026.
During the specialized session, faculty members from Shahid Beheshti University and Ufa University of Science and Technology presented their perspectives on the legal dimensions of developments in the digital world and the growing use of artificial intelligence. On the Russian side, faculty members and graduate students from Ufa University of Science and Technology participated online from the university’s Innovation Center.
Dr. Bagher Shamloo, Professor of Criminal Law and Criminology at the Faculty of Law, Shahid Beheshti University, delivered a presentation titled “Dignity-Centered Living in the Age of Digital Life and Artificial Intelligence.”
Dr. Fatemeh Ghanad, a faculty member of the Faculty of Law at University of Science and Culture, also delivered a presentation titled “Criminal Liability When an Intelligent System Is the Decision-Maker,” examining the dimensions of criminal liability in the use of intelligent systems and the role of artificial intelligence in decision-making processes.
In another presentation, Dr. Mehdi Sabouripour, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law and Head of the UNESCO Chair on Human Rights, Peace and Democracy at Shahid Beheshti University, addressed “Privacy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Challenges in Digital and Criminal Law.” He discussed key legal challenges related to privacy protection in the age of artificial intelligence.
The specialized session was organized in cooperation with the International Cooperation Management Office of Shahid Beheshti University, Ufa University of Science and Technology, and the Virtual Universities Network of the Islamic World, with the participation of faculty members and graduate students from Ufa University of Science and Technology. A number of prominent Russian scholars in the field of law also took part in the session.
During the two-hour program, Russian participants raised specialized questions, critically examined the perspectives presented by the speakers, and exchanged views on the legal and criminal-law dimensions of developments resulting from the advancement of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
It is worth noting that Ufa University of Science and Technology, with more than 50,000 students across various fields of study, is one of the major comprehensive universities in the Western Ural region and among Russia’s largest universities in terms of student enrollment.
