The book Modernism in Persian Poetry by Dr. Maryam Moshref, poet, researcher, and faculty member of Shahid Beheshti University, has been published by Morvarid Publishing.

According to the Public Relations Office of Shahid Beheshti University, the modernist movement in the literature of Europe and North America in the first half of the twentieth century had a profound impact on literary developments worldwide and gradually influenced poets and writers in South America, East Asia, and the Middle East as well. Emphasis on innovation in language, form, and literary structure in order to reflect the complex and fluid dimensions of life is considered one of the most important achievements of this movement.

In this book, Dr. Moshref has collected a selection of her lectures and research notes, focusing on the study of literary modernism in contemporary Persian poetry. In this work, the poems of Nima Yushij and a number of his close and distant students and followers — including Ahmad Shamlu, Amir-Houshang Ebtehaj, Mehdi Akhavan-Sales, Sohrab Sepehri, Forough Farrokhzad, and Mohammad-Reza Shafiei-Kadkani — are analyzed and examined in light of key components of literary modernism.

Modernism in Persian Poetry has been published by Morvarid Publishing in paperback format, 358 pages, and is now available to those interested in contemporary Iranian literature.
