The book Plastics and Microplastics in the Environment: Management and Health Risks, authored by Arif Ahamad, Pardeep Singh, and Danish Tiwary, and translated by Ahmad Khoshbin, Dr. Habib Karimipour (PhD graduate of Shahid Beheshti University), and Dr. Afsaneh Shahbazi (Associate Professor at the Environmental Sciences Research Institute of Shahid Beheshti University), has been published.
This work was published for the first time in 1404 (Iranian calendar year) by Shahid Beheshti University Press in a 306-page, large-format (Rahli) edition, and has been offered at the price of 3,050,000 rials.
Today, pollution caused by polymeric materials—particularly plastics and the microplastics produced through their degradation—has become one of the most significant environmental and public health challenges worldwide. The expanding use of plastic materials across various industries, together with the growing body of evidence regarding their harmful impacts on human health, wildlife, and ecosystems, has highlighted more than ever the need for access to accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date scientific resources in this field.
The present book is considered a comprehensive and current scientific reference on the subject. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the authors examine the sources, behavior, environmental consequences, and health risks associated with plastics and microplastics. This work has been translated into Persian to address the scientific and educational needs of researchers, students, and specialists in environmental science, environmental health, and other health-related disciplines.
The book includes chapters on microplastic contamination in freshwater systems, marine environments, soil, and air. One chapter is also devoted to microplastics in aquatic food chains and their implications for human health. In addition, topics such as the global distribution of plastics, recycling challenges, plastic degradation, biodegradable plastics, and the role of education and society in addressing the plastic crisis are discussed in the concluding chapters.
The primary audience for this work includes students and researchers in environmental studies, environmental health, medicine, and related health sciences. Nevertheless, it is also recommended for officials, policymakers, and practitioners in the fields of environment and public health, so they may draw on the book’s scientific content in formulating and implementing effective strategies to reduce production, control and manage plastic waste, and advance toward sustainable alternatives.
Students and interested readers may obtain the book by visiting the sales office of the Center for Publishing Scientific Works of Shahid Beheshti University, located in the Information Technology (IT) Building, ground floor, or by placing an online order through the Center’s website at https://press.sbu.ac.ir/ An electronic version of the book is also available via the “Fidibo” and “Taghcheh” platforms.
