The second edition of the book “The Qur’an and Conventional Security”, authored by Dr. Yousef Khanmohammadi, has been published. The book was first released in 2023 by Shahid Beheshti University Press and, following strong reception from readers, reached its second edition in 2025.

Security has always been one of the essential pillars of collective human life throughout history. The production, preservation, and expansion of security within society are considered among the most fundamental philosophical foundations for the establishment and continuity of both society and the state. Relying on the concept of conventional security reflects a realistic, comprehensive, and multidimensional approach to security.

In other words, interpreting security in the Qur’an through the lens of its conventional meaning enables responses to fundamental questions in contemporary security studies, facilitates the identification and conceptualization of core security challenges, and proposes innovative strategies—such as dialogue, just peace, and defensive jihad—to ensure security at the individual, national, and international levels. This approach also offers an indigenous theoretical framework grounded in the specific conditions of Iranian society and the broader Islamic world.

While emphasizing the central role of security in contemporary society, this perspective simultaneously accounts for other vital concepts such as freedom, justice, participation, transparency, and accountability, ensuring that none of these values is sacrificed in favor of another. From this viewpoint, the Qur’an conceptualizes society as a coherent and interactive system of diverse values and concepts, each of which is inherently valuable in its own right.

The author of “The Qur’an and Conventional Security” has sought, based on the above framework and drawing upon Shiite Islamic readings, to provide a valuable intellectual foundation for scholars in the field of security studies. The book is expected to be particularly useful for faculty members and graduate students in political science, international relations, political jurisprudence, Islamic political thought, Qur’anic studies, as well as for policymakers, governors, and decision-makers in Iran’s public sphere.

The book “The Qur’an and Conventional Security” was published in 2025 in a 286-page volume, priced at 2,500,000 rials. Interested readers may purchase the printed edition by visiting press.sbu.ac.ir, or obtain the electronic version through the Fidibo and Taghcheh digital platforms.
