According to the latest Nature Index 2024 rankings for the period from September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024, Shahid Beheshti University ranked 1,234 internationally among 17,893 universities and research centers worldwide. Domestically, it achieved an improved position, securing the fifth rank in the country.

Nature Index is a database comprising the organizational affiliations of authors who have published in 82 leading journals in the natural sciences. It provides both the absolute count and fractional share of article publications at organizational and national levels, serving as an indicator of high-quality research output and collaboration on a global scale. The 82 journals included in the Nature Index represent less than 4.5% of natural science journals indexed in the Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics), but account for approximately 30% of all citations in natural science journals. Notably, this database is compiled by Nature Research, updated monthly, and displays 12-month data on its website.

The article output for an institution, country, region, or city is calculated in two ways:

Count and Share. Count: If one or more authors of a research article are affiliated with that institution or location, a score of 1 is assigned to the institution or location, regardless of the number of co-authors from outside that institution or location.

 Share: This is a fractional count that considers the proportion of authors from a particular institution or country/region and the number of affiliated institutions in each article. In calculating Share, all authors’ contributions to the article are considered equal.

In the current version of the Nature Index rankings, covering the period from September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024, Shahid Beheshti University ranked 976 internationally and secured the fourth position nationally among universities.

Additionally, based on the five broad subject areas of Physics, Chemistry, Health Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Life Sciences, the results are as follows:

In the Nature Index database, China, the United States, and Germany hold the first to third positions, respectively. In this ranking, 127 Iranian organizations are present, of which 98 are academic institutions. Among all organizations, the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM) has achieved the top national rank in both categories, securing the 939th international rank among organizations and the 97th international rank among universities.
