The Step One Plus Real-time PCR device at the Central Laboratory of Shahid Beheshti University is now available to provide services to students and researchers.

The use of Real-time PCR is increasing in many diagnostic and molecular laboratories, as it serves as a suitable alternative to conventional PCR. Its main advantage lies in its high accuracy and sensitivity in determining the initial DNA concentration. In this diagnostic system, a fluorescent substance is released during the reaction in proportion to the amount of product generated in each cycle. The fluorescence is detected and recorded by a detector, allowing real-time monitoring of the reaction. This enables the evaluation of the amplification process in each cycle, as well as the optimization of reaction conditions, such as the appropriate DNA and primer concentrations and the necessary number of amplification cycles.

The applications of this device include: Gene expression analysis, Assessment of liver enzyme expression for drug metabolism, Detection and identification of infectious agents, Microbial contamination assessment in food samples compared to control samples, Detection of blood cancers and evaluation of relapse risk, Determining the success rate of organ transplants and gene therapy.
