Shahid Beheshti University

The book “Three Years in Beijing: An Account of an Academic Mission,” written by Dr. Seyed-Mehdi Tabatabaei, a faculty member of Shahid Beheshti University, has been published. The 140-page book, comprising 16 chapters, recounts the author’s 36 months of educational, academic, and cultural activities at Beijing International Studies University (BISU), as well as his efforts to foster academic and cultural ties between Iran and China.

According to the Public Relations Office of Shahid Beheshti University, the book chronicles Dr. Tabatabaei’s 32 months of in-person teaching and four months of online instruction at Beijing International Studies University. This period encompassed teaching Persian language and literature, mentoring students, conducting academic and cultural activities, and expanding academic and cultural ties between Iran and China.
“Three Years in Beijing” reviews the activities and achievements of this academic mission while offering an account of the presence of Persian language and culture in China’s academic environment. It also reflects part of an Iranian university professor’s educational and cultural experiences in Beijing.
The book recounts the author’s experiences teaching Persian language and literature and interacting with Chinese students, alongside his academic and cultural activities and engagement with China’s university environment. Together, these experiences offer a glimpse into some of the potential for academic and cultural cooperation between universities in Iran and China.
The book also provides an account of how academic and cultural ties were established and expanded during an educational mission. From the perspective of an Iranian university professor, it examines the presence and position of Persian language and literature within the Chinese academic environment.
