The ranking of Shahid Beheshti University’s (SBU) website in the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities improved significantly in July 2024, rising to fifth place among universities under the Ministry of Science of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In the July 2024 edition of the global Webometrics ranking system, SBU’s website achieved fifth place among universities of the Ministry of Science and eighth place among both medical and non-medical universities in Iran.
A review of the university's website ranking over recent years shows a remarkable improvement. Four years ago, SBU's website ranked 15th or 16th in Webometrics. Through collective efforts within the university, this ranking has improved to 5th, demonstrating an upward trend in the visibility of the university's website.
Webometrics is a university website ranking system initiated by the Cybermetrics Lab in Spain since 2004. It evaluates and ranks university websites based on specific indicators, emphasizing the online dissemination of knowledge. The goal is to assess university websites' participation in the transfer of science and knowledge to the academic community. The performance of university websites is evaluated based on their activities and impact, with results published twice a year.
The ranking is determined based on three indicators:

  • Visibility (50%): The number of external links to the university's pages, based on Ahrefs and Majestic databases.
  • Transparency (10%): The number of citations of top researchers, based on Google Scholar citations.
  • Excellence (40%): The number of articles published by the university's researchers in high-impact international journals, based on the Scimago database.
