The second volume of the two-volume book "Astronomy and Astrophysics," authored by Dr. Saeedollah Nasiri Qeydari, professor at Shahid Beheshti University’s Faculty of Physics, has been published. This book consists of 206 pages and has been published recently by Shahid Beheshti University Press.
The book "Astronomy and Astrophysics" is a two-volume series that results from the author's thirty-six years of teaching experience with physics students at the universities of Shiraz, Zanjan, and Shahid Beheshti in Tehran, at the master's and doctoral levels. The first volume was previously published in 2019 by the Modern Cartography and Geography Publishing House, and a new edition of the first volume will soon be released by Shahid Beheshti University Press.
The author has structured both volumes in a way that allow professors to cover within a single academic semester. While the series is useful for undergraduate physics students and others taking courses in astronomy and astrophysics, it is primarily aimed at graduate students specializing in these fields. The series delves into various topics while utilizing relevant physics laws for better comprehension. Therefore, students are expected to have a foundational understanding of prerequisite subjects, including classical mechanics, relativity, quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, nuclear physics, and solid-state physics.
The first volume is divided into four chapters covering the history of astronomy, the solar system, stellar physics, and binary stars. The second volume continues with seven chapters on the Milky Way Galaxy, active galactic nuclei, radio astronomy, cosmic rays, cosmology, life in the universe, and astrophysical fluid dynamics. Similar to the first volume, each chapter in the second volume concludes with exercises designed to enhance understanding and reinforce the material presented.
